The Dog Days of Summer are Upon Us

I was of the knowledge that the above phrase referred to the month of August but ‘googling’ the phrase I learned that it is actually July 3 through August 11th that they were referring to, id est, “The phrase is actually a reference to the fact that, during this time, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. … They referred to this time as diēs caniculārēs, or “dog days.”

It’s also a great time for travelling and greeting and visiting friends and family. That is exactly what I am doing. Welcoming family from Atlanta, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. plus meeting up with old friends here in Oregon. Hence the reason for my short post this week.
